They hid ¹  in the bedroom and then she said to him, “The Philistines are here, ²  Samson!” He snapped the bowstrings as easily as a thread of yarn snaps when it is put close to fire. ³  The secret of his strength was not discovered. ⁴ 

Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and this son of Jesse? You gave ¹  him bread and a sword and inquired of God on his behalf, so that he opposes ²  me and waits in ambush, as is the case today!”

I listened and my stomach churned; ¹  the sound made my lips quiver. My frame went limp, as if my bones were decaying, ²  and I shook as I tried to walk. ³  I long ⁴  for the day of distress to come upon ⁵  the people who attack us.

Let none who rely on you be disgraced because of me, O sovereign Lord and king! ¹  Let none who seek you be ashamed because of me, O God of Israel!

So Delilah took new ropes and tied him with them and said to him, “The Philistines are here, ¹  Samson!” (The Philistines were hiding in the bedroom.) ²  But he tore the ropes ³  from his arms as if they were a piece of thread.

Indeed, the coastlands ¹  look eagerly for me, the large ships ²  are in the lead, bringing your sons from far away, along with their silver and gold, to honor the Lord your God, ³  the Holy One of Israel, ⁴  for he has bestowed honor on you.

Do any of the worthless idols ¹  of the nations cause rain to fall? Do the skies themselves send showers? Is it not you, O Lord our God, who does this? ²  So we put our hopes in you ³  because you alone do all this.”

Silently the man watched her with interest to determine ¹  if the Lord had made his journey successful ²  or not.

You must stand outside and the person to whom you are making the loan will bring out to you what he is offering as security. ¹ 

These were the ones who served the king, besides those whom the king placed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

“Be patient ¹  with me a little longer and I will instruct you, for I still have words to speak on God’s behalf. ² 

He ¹  is like a lion ²  that wants to tear its prey to bits, ³  like a young lion crouching ⁴  in hidden places.

Look, the Lord takes notice of his loyal followers, ¹  those who wait for him to demonstrate his faithfulness ² 

Your loyal followers will be glad when they see me, ¹  for I find hope in your word.

כ (Kaf) I desperately long for ¹  your deliverance. I find hope in your word.

My eyes grow tired as I wait for your promise to be fulfilled. ¹  I say, ²  “When will you comfort me?”

How long must your servant endure this? ¹  When will you judge those who pursue me?

You are my hiding place and my shield. I find hope in your word.

My eyes grow tired as I wait for your deliverance, ¹  for your reliable promise to be fulfilled. ² 

The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, ¹  and in those who wait for his loyal love.
