After this Jesus, realizing that by this time ¹  everything was completed, ²  said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ³  “I am thirsty!” ⁴ 

and they recognized him as the man who used to sit and ask for donations ¹  at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with astonishment and amazement ²  at what had happened to him.

But when they recognized ¹  that he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison, ²  “Great is Artemis ³  of the Ephesians!” for about two hours. ⁴ 

They know, ¹  because they have known ²  me from time past, ³  if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party ⁴  of our religion, I lived as a Pharisee. ⁵ 

None of the rulers of this age understood it. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse ¹  his servant or any of my father’s house. For your servant is not aware of all this – not in whole or in part!” ² 

Someone went out to the field to gather some herbs and found a wild vine. ¹  He picked some of its fruit, ²  enough to fill up the fold of his robe. He came back, cut it up, and threw the slices ³  into the stew pot, not knowing they were harmful. ⁴ 

If you say, “But we did not know about this,” does not the one who evaluates ¹  hearts consider? Does not the one who guards your life know? Will he not repay each person according to his deeds? ² 

I will do so because these people ¹  have rejected me and have defiled ²  this place. They have offered sacrifices in it to other gods which neither they nor their ancestors ³  nor the kings of Judah knew anything about. They have filled it with the blood of innocent children. ⁴ 

Jacob obeyed his father and mother and left for Paddan Aram.

Then Jacob woke up ¹  and thought, ²  “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!”

(Now ¹  they did not know that Joseph could understand them, ²  for he was speaking through an interpreter.) ³ 

Balak son of Zippor saw all that the Israelites had done to the Amorites.

The sons of Eli were wicked men. ¹  They did not recognize the Lord’s authority. ² 

Will they not ¹  instruct you and ²  speak to you, and bring forth words ³  from their understanding? ⁴ 

“He has put my relatives ¹  far from me; my acquaintances only ²  turn away from me.

“As soon as the ear heard these things, ¹  it blessed me, ²  and when the eye saw them, it bore witness to me,

Violent men perjure themselves, ¹  and falsely accuse me. ² 

You walked through the sea; ¹  you passed through the surging waters, ²  but left no footprints. ³ 

A poor but wise youth is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive advice.
