“Has anyone said to God, ‘I have endured chastisement, ¹  but I will not act wrongly any more.

But the Lord ¹  rules ²  forever; he reigns in a just manner. ³ 

Your throne, ¹  O God, is permanent. ²  The scepter ³  of your kingdom is a scepter of justice.

but, despite their wealth, people do not last, ¹  they are like animals ²  that perish. ³ 

Give the king long life! Make his lifetime span several generations! ¹ 

He made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above; ¹  as secure as the earth, which he established permanently. ² 

(May those who hate the Lord ¹  cower in fear ²  before him! May they be permanently humiliated!) ³ 

So I said, “My endurance has expired; I have lost all hope of deliverance ¹  from the Lord.”

So when we could bear it no longer, we decided to stay on in Athens ¹  alone.

We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced. ¹ 

Finally the Lord could no longer endure your wicked deeds and the disgusting things you did. That is why your land has become the desolate, uninhabited ruin that it is today. That is why it has become a proverbial example used in curses. ¹ 

Happy is the one ¹  who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God ²  promised to those who love him.

Then he looked on the Kenites and uttered this oracle: “Your dwelling place seems strong, and your nest ¹  is set on a rocky cliff.

For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one’s life. ¹  One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. ² 

I say, “O my God, please do not take me away in the middle of my life! ¹  You endure through all generations. ² 

A song of ascents. ²  Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

But you, as a person dedicated to God, ¹  keep away from all that. ²  Instead pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness.

You, however, ¹  have followed my teaching, my ²  way of life, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my endurance,

You must obey ¹  all I command you to do, follow my instructions, ²  do what I approve, ³  and keep my rules and commandments, like my servant David did. Then I will be with you and establish for you a lasting dynasty, as I did for David; ⁴  I will give you Israel.

The Lord says, ¹  “Listen, ²  nation of Israel! ³  I am about to bring a nation from far away to attack you. It will be a nation that was founded long ago and has lasted for a long time. It will be a nation whose language you will not know. Its people will speak words that you will not be able to understand.
