I will punish you as an adulteress and murderer deserves. ¹  I will avenge your bloody deeds with furious rage. ² 

They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became notorious ¹  among women, and they executed judgments against her.

But upright men will punish them appropriately for their adultery and bloodshed, ¹  because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands.

Understand that ¹  it is not for your sake I am about to act, declares the sovereign Lord. Be ashamed and embarrassed by your behavior, O house of Israel.

O LORD, we have been humiliated ¹  – our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors – because we have sinned against you.

“For the day of the Lord ¹  is approaching ²  for all the nations! ³  Just as you have done, so it will be done to you. You will get exactly what your deeds deserve. ⁴ 

You are offering improper sacrifices on my altar, yet you ask, ‘How have we offended you?’ By treating the table ¹  of the Lord as if it is of no importance!

But the centurion replied, ¹  “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Instead, just say the word and my servant will be healed.

Whenever ¹  you enter a town or village, ²  find out who is worthy there ³  and stay with them ⁴  until you leave.

“If ¹  you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners ²  love those who love them. ³ 

Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, ¹  for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” ²  says the Lord.

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward. But if I do it unwillingly, I am entrusted with a responsibility.

And if the ear says, “Since I am not an eye, I am not part of the body,” it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.

even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you are saved! ¹  –

This is evidence of God’s righteous judgment, to make you worthy ¹  of the kingdom of God, for which in fact you are suffering.

Those who are under the yoke as slaves ¹  must regard their own masters as deserving of full respect. This will prevent ²  the name of God and Christian teaching ³  from being discredited. ⁴ 

For we know the one who said, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” ¹  and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” ² 

But you have a few individuals ¹  in Sardis who have not stained ²  their clothes, and they will walk with me dressed ³  in white, because they are worthy.

And I saw a powerful angel proclaiming in a loud voice: “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to break its seals?”

all of whom ¹  were singing ²  in a loud voice: “Worthy is the lamb who was killed ³  to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and praise!”
