Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and his men ¹  got up the next morning and camped near the spring of Harod. ²  The Midianites ³  were camped north of them near the hill of Moreh in the valley.

“If Esau attacks one camp,” ¹  he thought, ²  “then the other camp will be able to escape.” ³ 

When Gideon heard the report of the dream and its interpretation, he praised God. ¹  Then he went back to the Israelite camp and said, “Get up, for the Lord is handing the Midianite army over to you!”

When Jacob saw them, he exclaimed, ¹  “This is the camp of God!” So he named that place Mahanaim. ² 

On ¹  the third day in the morning there was thunder and lightning and a dense ²  cloud on the mountain, and the sound of a very loud ³  horn; ⁴  all the people who were in the camp trembled.

Now ¹  an Israelite woman’s son whose father was an Egyptian went out among the Israelites, and the Israelite woman’s son and an Israelite man ²  had a fight in the camp.

All those numbered of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, are 186,400. They will travel ¹  at the front.

All those numbered of the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, are 151,450. They will travel second.

And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel. ¹  An alarm must be sounded ²  for their journeys.

They came to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel, “We have come from a distant land. Make a treaty with us.”

The men journeyed ¹  through the land and mapped it and its cities out into seven regions on a scroll. Then they came to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh.

That night the Lord said to Gideon, ¹  “Get up! Attack ²  the camp, for I am handing it over to you. ³ 

The Philistines went up and invaded ¹  Judah. They arrayed themselves for battle ²  in Lehi.

The Israelites got up the next morning and moved ¹  against Gibeah.

Then fear overwhelmed ¹  those who were in the camp, those who were in the field, all the army in the garrison, and the raiding bands. They trembled and the ground shook. This fear was caused by God. ² 

While ¹  Saul spoke to the priest, the panic in the Philistines’ camp was becoming greater and greater. So Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand!”

Jesse said to his son David, “Take your brothers this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread; go quickly ¹  to the camp to your brothers.

So they got up and fled at dusk, leaving behind their tents, horses, and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.

May their camp become desolate, their tents uninhabited! ¹ 

This is the kind of plague that will devastate horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the other animals in those camps.
