The Holy Spirit is making clear that the way into the holy place had not yet appeared as long as the old tabernacle ¹  was standing.

The place where they serve is ¹  a sketch ²  and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, just as Moses was warned by God as he was about to complete the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the design ³  shown to you on the mountain.” ⁴ 

Anyone who touches the corpse of any dead person and does not purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the Lord. And that person must be cut off from Israel, ¹  because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him. He will be unclean; his uncleanness remains on him.

They must join ¹  with you, and they will be responsible for the care of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the tent, but no unauthorized person ²  may approach you.

The priests and Levites carried the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, ¹  and all the holy items in the tent. ² 

Then all who survive from all the nations that came to attack Jerusalem will go up annually to worship the King, the Lord who rules over all, and to observe the Feast of Tabernacles. ¹ 

If the Egyptians will not do so, they will get no rain – instead there will be the kind of plague which the Lord inflicts on any nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

For a tent was prepared, the outer one, ¹  which contained ²  the lampstand, the table, and the presentation of the loaves; this ³  is called the holy place.

“You are to present ¹  Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the tent of meeting. You are to wash ²  them with water

Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that was in the basket at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

With it he made the bases for the door of the tent of meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating for it, and all the utensils of the altar,

“You are to bring ¹  Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.

Then that high priest must take some of the blood ¹  of the bull and bring it to the Meeting Tent.

The priest who offers it for sin is to eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the Meeting Tent.

So Moses did just as the Lord commanded him, and the congregation assembled at the entrance of the Meeting Tent.

He must then take the two goats ¹  and stand them before the Lord at the entrance of the Meeting Tent,

but does not bring it to the entrance of the Meeting Tent to offer it ¹  to the Lord – that person will be cut off from his people. ² 

He must bring his guilt offering to the Lord at the entrance of the Meeting Tent, a guilt offering ram, ¹ 

“‘I will put my tabernacle ¹  in your midst and I will not abhor you. ² 

This is the service of the Kohathites in the tent of meeting, relating to the most holy things. ¹
