Then Daniel (whose name is also Belteshazzar) was upset for a brief time; ¹  his thoughts were alarming him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream and its interpretation alarm you.” But Belteshazzar replied, “Sir, ²  if only the dream were for your enemies and its interpretation applied to your adversaries!

At that time I also warned you, ¹  ‘If you disobey, ²  I will not drive out the Canaanites ³  before you. They will ensnare you ⁴  and their gods will lure you away.’” ⁵ 

Her rival wife used to upset her and make her worry, ¹  for the Lord had not enabled her to have children.

Samuel said, “Why are you asking me, now that the Lord has turned away from you and has become your enemy?

He delivers me from my enemies; ¹  you snatch me away ²  from those who attack me; ³  you rescue me from violent men.

They seized the Hagrites’ ¹  animals, including 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, and 2,000 donkeys. They also took captive 100,000 people.

It so happened that when our adversaries heard that we were aware of these matters, ¹  God frustrated their intentions. Then all of us returned to the wall, each to his own work.

But prior to this time, Eliashib the priest, a relative of Tobiah, had been appointed over the storerooms ¹  of the temple of our God.

and I returned to Jerusalem. Then I discovered the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah by supplying him with a storeroom in the courts of the temple of God.

On that same day King Ahasuerus gave the estate ¹  of Haman, that adversary of the Jews, to Queen Esther. Now Mordecai had come before the king, for Esther had revealed how he was related to her.

Again the day came when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also arrived among them to present himself before the Lord. ¹ 

And the Lord said to Satan, “Where do you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, ¹  “From roving about on the earth, and from walking back and forth across it.” ² 

After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts ¹  when his voice is heard.

A psalm of David, written when he fled from his son Absalom. ²  Lord, how ³  numerous are my enemies! Many attack me. ⁴ 

Stand up angrily, ¹  Lord! Rise up with raging fury against my enemies! ²  Wake up for my sake and execute the judgment you have decreed for them! ³ 

He is secure at all times. ¹  He has no regard for your commands; ²  he disdains all his enemies. ³ 

Then ¹  my enemy will say, “I have defeated him!” Then ²  my foes will rejoice because I am upended.

You give me strength ¹  for battle; you make my foes kneel before me. ² 

He delivers me ¹  from my enemies; you snatch me away ²  from those who attack me; ³  you rescue me from violent men.

By your power ¹  we will drive back ²  our enemies; by your strength ³  we will trample down ⁴  our foes! ⁵
