Our forefathers ¹  sinned and are dead, ²  but we ³  suffer ⁴  their punishment. ⁵

The man replied to Joab, “Even if ¹  I were receiving ²  a thousand pieces of silver, ³  I would not strike ⁴  the king’s son! In our very presence ⁵  the king gave this order to you and Abishai and Ittai, ‘Protect the young man Absalom for my sake.’ ⁶ 

When he sees ¹  a good resting place, and the pleasant land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and become a slave laborer. ² 

So they put foremen ¹  over the Israelites ²  to oppress ³  them with hard labor. As a result ⁴  they built Pithom and Rameses ⁵  as store cities for Pharaoh.

¹ Moses told this ²  to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him ³  because of their discouragement ⁴  and hard labor.

For by now I could have stretched out ¹  my hand and struck you and your people with plague, and you would have been destroyed ²  from the earth.

All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the sanctuary ¹  (namely, ²  the gold of the wave offering) was twenty-nine talents and 730 shekels, ³  according to the sanctuary shekel.

The silver of those who were numbered of the community was one hundred talents and 1,775 shekels, ¹  according to the sanctuary shekel,

From the firstborn males of the Israelites he collected the money, 1,365 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel.

So we cried out to the Lord, the God of our ancestors, and he ¹  heard us and saw our humiliation, toil, and oppression.

He asked them, “How do you advise me ¹  to respond to these people who said to me, ‘Lessen the demands your father placed on us’?” ²
