My guests ¹  and my servant girls consider ²  me a stranger; I am a foreigner ³  in their eyes.

Can you count on ¹  it to bring in ²  your grain, ³  and gather the grain ⁴  to your threshing floor? ⁵ 

The wicked turn aside from birth; ¹  liars go astray as soon as they are born. ² 

My own brothers treat me like a stranger; they act as if I were a foreigner. ¹ 

How miserable I am! ¹  For I have lived temporarily ²  in Meshech; I have resided among the tents of Kedar. ³ 

lest you give your vigor ¹  to others and your years to a cruel person,

lest strangers devour ¹  your strength, ²  and your labor ³  benefit ⁴  another man’s house.

The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

The heart knows its own bitterness, ¹  and with its joy no one else ²  can share. ³ 

The way of the guilty person ¹  is devious, ²  but as for the pure, ³  his way is upright.

Let another ¹  praise you, and not your own mouth; ²  someone else, ³  and not your own lips.

Yes, you are a God who keeps hidden, O God of Israel, deliverer!

¹ “Foreigners will take care of ²  your sheep; foreigners will work in your fields and vineyards.

Our inheritance ¹  is turned over to strangers; foreigners now occupy our homes. ² 

I will give it to foreigners as loot, to the world’s wicked ones as plunder, and they will desecrate it.

I will do this in order to capture the hearts of the house of Israel, who have alienated themselves from me on account of all their idols.’

You will die the death of the uncircumcised ¹  by the hand of foreigners; for I have spoken, declares the sovereign Lord.’”

Was no one found to turn back and give praise to God except this foreigner?” ¹ 

Jesus answered, ¹  “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you don’t understand these things? ² 

They will never follow a stranger, ¹  but will run away from him, because they do not recognize ²  the stranger’s voice.” ³
