Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” ¹  and call understanding a close relative,

“I, wisdom, live with prudence, ¹  and I find ²  knowledge and discretion.

Many people entreat the favor ¹  of a generous person, ²  and everyone is the friend ³  of the person who gives gifts. ⁴ 

Do not eat the food of a stingy person, ¹  do not crave his delicacies;

Stop trusting in human beings, whose life’s breath is in their nostrils. For why should they be given special consideration?

Now King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had issued orders concerning Jeremiah. He had passed them on through Nebuzaradan, the captain of his royal guard, ¹ 

The captain of the royal guard took Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest who was second in rank, and the three doorkeepers. ¹ 

And the child grew and became strong, ¹  filled with wisdom, ²  and the favor ³  of God ⁴  was upon him.

He won’t thank the slave because he did what he was told, ¹  will he? ² 

Then ¹  they cast lots for them, and the one chosen was Matthias; ²  so he was counted with the eleven apostles. ³ 

Reverential awe ¹  came over everyone, ²  and many wonders and miraculous signs ³  came about by the apostles.

and placing them at the apostles’ feet. The proceeds ¹  were distributed to each, as anyone had need.

On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through ¹  the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they are.” ² 

But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law ¹  and boast of your relationship to God ² 

and if you are convinced ¹  that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,

For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function,

From Paul, ¹  called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus ²  by the will of God, and Sosthenes, our brother,

For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,

to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

For you can all prophesy one after another, so all can learn and be encouraged.
