“The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and the land of my relatives, ¹  promised me with a solemn oath, ²  ‘To your descendants I will give this land.’ He will send his angel ³  before you so that you may find ⁴  a wife for my son from there.

He said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a time of cessation from work, ¹  a holy Sabbath ²  to the Lord. Whatever you want to ³  bake, bake today; ⁴  whatever you want to boil, boil today; whatever is left put aside for yourselves to be kept until morning.’”

At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration: ¹  “The man who attempts to rebuild ²  this city of Jericho ³  will stand condemned before the Lord. ⁴  He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!” ⁵ 

“All Israel has broken ¹  your law and turned away by not obeying you. ²  Therefore you have poured out on us the judgment solemnly threatened ³  in the law of Moses the servant of God, for we have sinned against you. ⁴ 

I will place ¹  my rainbow ²  in the clouds, and it will become ³  a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth.

Then I will confirm my covenant ¹  between me and you, and I will give you a multitude of descendants.” ² 

“As for me, ¹  this ²  is my covenant with you: You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

Early in the morning the men made a treaty with each other. ¹  Isaac sent them off; they separated on good terms. ² 

I also established my covenant with them ¹  to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as resident foreigners. ² 

But Saul swore an oath to her by the Lord, “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not incur guilt in this matter!”

The king swore an oath: “As certainly as the Lord lives (he who has rescued me ¹  from every danger),

They solemnly agreed ¹  to seek the Lord God of their ancestors ²  with their whole heart and being.

(They gave their word ¹  to send away their wives; their guilt offering was a ram from the flock for their guilt.)

“I made a covenant with ¹  my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin? ² 

God is a just judge; he is angry throughout the day. ¹ 

He ¹  attacks ²  his friends; ³  he breaks his solemn promises to them. ⁴ 

The Lord said, ¹  “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:

I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure. ¹ 

So he made a solemn vow ¹  that he would make them die ²  in the desert,

I have vowed and solemnly sworn to keep your just regulations.
