as unknown, and yet well-known; as dying and yet – see! – we continue to live; as those who are scourged ¹  and yet not executed;

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, ¹  to acknowledge those who labor among you and preside over you in the Lord and admonish you,

You have destroyed ¹  my people by failing to acknowledge me! Because you refuse to acknowledge me, ²  I will reject you as my priests. Because you reject ³  the law of your God, I will reject ⁴  your descendants.

His master observed that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made everything he was doing successful. ¹ 

Now if you say to yourselves, ¹  ‘How can we tell that a message is not from the Lord?’ ²  –

Then ¹  all the nations of the earth will recognize that the Lord is the only genuine God. ² 

For he ¹  knows deceitful ²  men; when he sees evil, will he not ³  consider it? ⁴ 

Which of all these ¹  does not know that the hand of the Lord ²  has done ³  this,

How many are my ¹  iniquities and sins? Show me my transgression and my sin. ² 

‘Surely such is the residence ¹  of an evil man; and this is the place of one who has not known God.’” ² 

People ¹  who had seen him will not see him again, and the place where he was will recognize him no longer.

For all of them, ¹  the morning is to them like deep darkness; they are friends with the terrors of darkness.

for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. ¹ 

The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. ¹ 

Acknowledge ¹  him in all your ways, ²  and he will make your paths straight. ³
