So Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate ¹  of their city and spoke to the men of their city,

Those who sit at the city gate gossip about me; drunkards mock me in their songs. ¹ 

The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwelling places of Jacob.

Her husband is well-known ¹  in the city gate ²  when he sits with the elders ³  of the land.

Give ¹  her credit for what she has accomplished, ²  and let her works praise her ³  in the city gates. ⁴ 

He will give discernment to the one who makes judicial decisions, and strength to those who defend the city from attackers. ¹

If you disobey, I will set the gates of Jerusalem on fire. It will burn down all the fortified dwellings in Jerusalem and no one will be able to put it out.’”

Go out to the part of the Hinnom Valley which is near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. ¹  Announce there what I tell you. ² 

On the outside of the porch as one goes up at the entrance of the north gate were two tables, and on the other side of the porch of the gate were two tables.

at the head of the noisy ¹  streets she calls, in the entrances of the gates in the city ²  she utters her words: ³ 

Blessed is the one ¹  who listens to me, watching ²  at my doors day by day, waiting ³  beside my doorway. ⁴

Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side. He measured the gate; it had the same dimensions as the others.
