But if you ¹  have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has had sexual relations with you….” ² 

Next the king summoned ¹  Shimei and told him, “Build yourself a house in Jerusalem ²  and live there – but you may not leave there to go anywhere! ³ 

You who tear yourself ¹  to pieces in your anger, will the earth be abandoned ²  for your sake? Or will a rock be moved from its place? ³ 

If you have done foolishly by exalting yourself ¹  or if you have planned evil, put ²  your hand over your mouth!

Then a wind ¹  came into me and stood me on my feet. The Lord ²  spoke to me and said, “Go shut yourself in your house.

For no one who seeks to make a reputation for himself ¹  does anything in secret. ²  If you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.”

therefore ¹  you who teach someone else, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

At that same time the Lord said to me, “Carve out for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones and come up the mountain to me; also make for yourself a wooden ark. ¹ 

Some time later, in the third year of the famine, the Lord told Elijah, ¹  “Go, make an appearance before Ahab, so I may send rain on the surface of the ground.”

May you give support to the one you have chosen, ¹  to the one whom you raised up for yourself! ² 

Like an animal that goes down into a valley to graze, ¹  so the Spirit of the Lord granted them rest. In this way ²  you guided your people, gaining for yourself an honored reputation. ³ 

ס (Samek) You shrouded yourself ¹  with anger and then pursued us; you killed without mercy.

Then ¹  the devil ²  brought him to Jerusalem, ³  had him stand ⁴  on the highest point of the temple, ⁵  and said to him, “If ⁶  you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

The Jewish leaders ¹  replied, ²  “We are not going to stone you for a good deed ³  but for blasphemy, ⁴  because ⁵  you, a man, are claiming to be God.” ⁶ 

But because of your stubbornness ¹  and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourselves in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed! ² 

Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that everyone will see your progress. ¹ 

“I am about to die. ¹  Be strong and become a man!

“Leave here and travel eastward. Hide out in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.

“Reconcile yourself ¹  with God, ²  and be at peace ³  with him; in this way your prosperity will be good.

Then you will take delight in the Lord, ¹  and he will answer your prayers. ²
