They will eat, but not be satisfied; they will engage in prostitution, but not increase in numbers; because they have abandoned the Lord by pursuing other gods. ¹ 

A whirlwind has wrapped them in its wings; they will be brought to shame because of their idolatrous worship. ¹ 

But the more I summoned ¹  them, the farther they departed from me. ²  They sacrificed to the Baal idols and burned incense to images.

I will uproot your images of Asherah ¹  from your midst, and destroy your idols. ² 

– children not born ¹  by human parents ²  or by human desire ³  or a husband’s ⁴  decision, ⁵  but by God.

Now the works of the flesh ¹  are obvious: ²  sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,

The king ruined the high places east of Jerusalem, south of the Mount of Destruction, ¹  that King Solomon of Israel had built for the detestable Sidonian goddess Astarte, the detestable Moabite god Chemosh, and the horrible Ammonite god Milcom.

“Look up at the hilltops and consider this. ¹  You have had sex with other gods on every one of them. ²  You waited for those gods like a thief lying in wait in the desert. ³  You defiled the land by your wicked prostitution to other gods. ⁴ 

Soon after these things, his master’s wife took notice of ¹  Joseph and said, “Have sex with me.” ²

Be careful ¹  not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when ²  they prostitute themselves ³  to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone invites you, ⁴  you will eat from his sacrifice;

When a man has sexual intercourse with a woman and there is a seminal emission, ¹  they must bathe in water and be unclean until evening.
