Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Lord says, ‘About this time tomorrow a seah ¹  of finely milled flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.’”

Before it was sold, ¹  did it not ²  belong to you? And when it was sold, was the money ³  not at your disposal? How have you thought up this deed in your heart? ⁴  You have not lied to people ⁵  but to God!”

He answered her, “While I was talking to Naboth the Jezreelite, I said to him, ‘Sell me your vineyard for silver, or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said, ‘I will not sell you my vineyard.’” ¹ 

Will partners ¹  bargain ²  for it? Will they divide it up ³  among the merchants?

the lambs will be for your clothing, and the goats will be for the price of a field. ¹ 

This is what the Lord says: “Where is your mother’s divorce certificate by which I divorced her? Or to which of my creditors did I sell you? ¹  Look, you were sold because of your sins; ²  because of your rebellious acts I divorced your mother. ³ 

“I am a temporary settler ¹  among you. Grant ²  me ownership ³  of a burial site among you so that I may ⁴  bury my dead.” ⁵ 

Now, do not be upset and do not be angry with yourselves because you sold me here, ¹  for God sent me ²  ahead of you to preserve life!

“What ¹  profit is there in taking my life, ²  in my descending into the Pit? ³  Can the dust of the grave ⁴  praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? ⁵ 

At the end of seventy years ¹  the Lord will revive ²  Tyre. She will start making money again by selling her services to all the earth’s kingdoms. ³ 

To those who sold the doves he said, “Take these things away from here! Do not make ¹  my Father’s house a marketplace!” ² 

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town ¹  and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”

Later Reuben returned to the cistern to find that Joseph was not in it! ¹  He tore his clothes,

Yes, you would gamble ¹  for the fatherless, and auction off ²  your friend.

The fatherless child is snatched ¹  from the breast, ²  the infant of the poor is taken as a pledge. ³ 

May the arrogant be humiliated, for they have slandered me! ¹  But I meditate on your precepts.

Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding; do not forget and do not turn aside from the words I speak. ¹ 

Diverse weights and diverse measures ¹  – the Lord abhors ²  both of them.

Those who pull evil along using cords of emptiness are as good as dead, ¹  who pull sin as with cart ropes. ² 

The businessmen love to cheat; ¹  they use dishonest scales. ²
