A whip for the horse and a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools! ¹ 

I said of partying, ¹  “It is folly,” and of self-indulgent pleasure, ²  “It accomplishes nothing!” ³ 

“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.

Let no one who delights in humility and the worship of angels pass judgment on you. That person goes on at great lengths ¹  about what he has supposedly seen, but he is puffed up with empty notions by his fleshly mind. ² 

Better to be slow to anger ¹  than to be a mighty warrior, and one who controls his temper ²  is better than ³  one who captures a city. ⁴ 

For just as the Father has life in himself, thus he has granted the Son to have life in himself,

What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The ¹  rest were hardened,

And David says, “Let their table become a snare and trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;

Likewise ¹  the women are to dress ²  in suitable apparel, with modesty and self-control. ³  Their adornment must not be ⁴  with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

You, however, be self-controlled ¹  in all things, endure hardship, do an evangelist’s work, fulfill your ministry.

Therefore, get your minds ready for action ¹  by being fully sober, and set your hope ²  completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. ³ 

but the inner person ¹  of the heart, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.

that ¹  if our conscience condemns ²  us, that ³  God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

Indeed, ¹  any person who does not behave with humility on this particular day will be cut off from his people. ² 

All his days ¹  the wicked man suffers torment, ²  throughout the number of the years that ³  are stored up for the tyrant. ⁴ 

My eyes have grown dim ¹  with grief; my whole frame ²  is but a shadow.

He has stripped me of my honor and has taken the crown off my head. ¹ 

In the fullness of his sufficiency, ¹  distress ²  overtakes him. the full force of misery will come upon him. ³ 

to turn a person from his sin, ¹  and to cover a person’s pride. ² 

then he reveals ¹  to them what they have done, ²  and their transgressions, that they were behaving proudly.
