¹ His thunder announces the coming storm, the cattle also, concerning the storm’s approach.

The earth heaved and shook; ¹  the roots of the mountains ²  trembled; ³  they heaved because he was angry.

Because they are bent on violence, do not let them escape! ¹  In your anger ²  bring down the nations, ³  O God!

You withdrew all your fury; you turned back from your raging anger. ¹ 

Yes, ¹  we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath.

O sovereign Lord, ¹  at your right hand he strikes down ²  kings in the day he unleashes his anger. ³ 

The mouth ¹  of an adulteress is like ²  a deep pit; ³  the one against whom the Lord is angry ⁴  will fall into it. ⁵ 

So ¹  the sovereign master ²  will afflict the foreheads of Zion’s women ³  with skin diseases, ⁴  the Lord will make the front of their heads bald.” ⁵ 

Because of this the king got furiously angry ¹  and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

Then the disciples came to him and said, “Do you know that when the Pharisees ¹  heard this saying they were offended?”

But ¹  the Pharisees ²  and the experts in the law ³  were complaining, ⁴  “This man welcomes ⁵  sinners and eats with them.”

Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is? ¹ 

“As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’” ¹ 

Now Jacob’s sons had come in from the field when they heard the news. ¹  They ²  were offended ³  and very angry because Shechem ⁴  had disgraced Israel ⁵  by sexually assaulting ⁶  Jacob’s daughter, a crime that should not be committed. ⁷ 

Now Haman went forth that day pleased and very much encouraged. ¹  But when Haman saw Mordecai at the king’s gate, and he did not rise nor tremble in his presence, ²  Haman was filled with rage toward Mordecai.

I will direct ¹  my jealous anger against you, and they will deal with you in rage. They will cut off your nose and your ears, ²  and your survivors will die ³  by the sword. They will seize your sons and daughters, and your survivors will be consumed by fire.

The anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has fully carried out his intended purposes. In days to come you will come to understand this. ¹ 

After I vent my wrath on it Babylon will be uninhabited. ¹  It will be totally desolate. All who pass by will be filled with horror and will hiss out their scorn because of all the disasters that have happened to it. ² 

“‘See, I strike my hands together ¹  at the dishonest profit you have made, and at the bloodshed ²  they have done among you.

They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became notorious ¹  among women, and they executed judgments against her.
