The king’s heart ¹  is in the hand ²  of the Lord like channels of water; ³  he turns it wherever he wants.

They will ask the way to Zion; they will turn their faces toward it. They will come ¹  and bind themselves to the Lord in a lasting covenant that will never be forgotten. ² 

If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you assemble it does not lead to judgment. I will give directions about other matters when I come.

Look at ships too: Though they are so large and driven by harsh winds, they are steered by a tiny rudder wherever the pilot’s inclination directs.

Next, I noticed ¹  six men ²  coming from the direction of the upper gate ³  which faces north, each with his war club in his hand. Among them was a man dressed in linen with a writing kit ⁴  at his side. They came and stood beside the bronze altar.

All the people ¹  who were directly descended ²  from Jacob numbered seventy. ³  But Joseph was already in Egypt, ⁴

Joshua and all Israel pretended to be defeated by them and they retreated along the way to the desert.

The men examined ¹  some of their provisions, but they failed to ask the Lord’s advice. ²

The Lord grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable. ¹ 

I will guide you ¹  in the way of wisdom and I will lead you in upright paths. ² 

The steps of a person ¹  are ordained by ²  the Lord – so how can anyone ³  understand his own ⁴  way?

Each moved straight ahead ¹  – wherever the spirit ²  would go, they would go, without turning as they went.
