For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the sake of the truth.

Surging waters cannot quench love; floodwaters ¹  cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions ²  to buy love, ³  the offer ⁴  would be utterly despised. ⁵ 

Since man’s days ¹  are determined, ²  the number of his months is under your control; ³  you have set his limit ⁴  and he cannot pass it.

He has blocked ¹  my way so I cannot pass, and has set darkness ²  over my paths.

As for the Almighty, ¹  we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice ²  and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.

You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. ¹ 

A song of ascents. ²  Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion; it cannot be upended and will endure forever.

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; ¹  they are robbed of sleep ²  until they make someone stumble. ³ 

Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read ¹  and say, “Read this,” he says, “I can’t read.” ² 

The Lord who rules over all ¹  says, ‘I will bring war, ²  starvation, and disease on them. I will treat them like figs that are so rotten ³  they cannot be eaten.

As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and tie you up with them, so you cannot go out among them.

Or do you think that I cannot call on my Father, and that he would send me more than twelve legions ¹  of angels right now?

The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it that its deeds are evil.

What did he mean by saying, ¹  ‘You will look for me ²  but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come’?”

Then Jesus ¹  said to them again, ²  “I am going away, and you will look for me ³  but will die in your sin. ⁴  Where I am going you cannot come.”

So the Jewish leaders ¹  began to say, ²  “Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’”

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you,” nor in turn can the head say to the foot, “I do not need you.”

And above the ark ¹  were the cherubim ²  of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Now is not the time to speak of these things in detail.

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe.

He frustrates ¹  the plans ²  of the crafty ³  so that ⁴  their hands cannot accomplish what they had planned! ⁵
