Certainly ¹  I am aware of ²  your many rebellious acts ³  and your numerous sins. You ⁴  torment the innocent, you take bribes, and you deny justice to ⁵  the needy at the city gate. ⁶ 

All have turned away, together they have become worthless; there is no one who shows kindness, not even one.” ¹ 

For I am aware of all his regulations, ¹  and I do not reject his rules. ² 

the young men would see me and step aside, ¹  and the old men would get up and remain standing;

to turn a person from his sin, ¹  and to cover a person’s pride. ² 

They were unfaithful ¹  and acted as treacherously as ²  their ancestors; they were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow. ³ 

But when they had ordered them to go outside the council, ¹  they began to confer with one another,

Some have strayed from these and turned away to empty discussion.

So get rid of ¹  all evil and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

“Let us ¹  pass through your land; ²  we will not turn aside into the fields or into the vineyards, nor will we drink water from any well, but we will go along the King’s Highway until we pass your borders.”

Then he will not exalt himself above his fellow citizens or turn from the commandments to the right or left, and he and his descendants will enjoy many years ruling over his kingdom ¹  in Israel.

He did this ¹  because David had done what he approved ²  and had not disregarded any of his commandments ³  his entire lifetime, except for the incident involving Uriah the Hittite.

Then Moses selected three cities in the Transjordan, toward the east.

and so incur judgment for breaking their former pledge. ¹ 

But he urged ¹  them persistently, so they turned aside with him and entered his house. He prepared a feast for them, including bread baked without yeast, and they ate.

those who bear false testimony against a person, ¹  who entrap the one who arbitrates at the city gate ²  and deprive the innocent of justice by making false charges. ³ 

we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards.

You, however, have turned from the way. You have caused many to violate the law; ¹  you have corrupted the covenant with Levi,” ²  says the Lord who rules over all.
