came to Jesus ¹  at night ²  and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs ³  that you do unless God is with him.”

Thus I told you ¹  that you will die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am he, ²  you will die in your sins.”

Therefore, remember from what high state ¹  you have fallen and repent! Do ²  the deeds you did at the first; ³  if not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place – that is, if you do not repent. ⁴ 

Certainly the sovereign Lord does nothing without first revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.

If I do not perform ¹  the deeds ²  of my Father, do not believe me.

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. ¹ 

If the Lord who commands armies ¹  had not left us a few survivors, we would have quickly become like Sodom, ²  we would have become like Gomorrah.

And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” ¹  Jesus replied, ²  “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” ³ 

It is the same for you. If you do not speak clearly with your tongue, how will anyone know what is being said? For you will be speaking into the air.

No widow should be put on the list ¹  unless ²  she is at least sixty years old, was the wife of one husband, ³

Just ¹  as Isaiah predicted, “If the Lord of armies ²  had not left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have resembled Gomorrah.” ³ 

Otherwise, as surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives – he who has prevented me from harming you – if you had not come so quickly to meet me, by morning’s light not even one male belonging to Nabal would have remained alive!”

Joab replied, “As surely as God lives, if you had not said this, it would have been morning before the people would have abandoned pursuit ¹  of their brothers!”

If an alarm sounds ¹  in a city, do people not fear? ²  If disaster overtakes a ³  city, is the Lord not responsible? ⁴ 

“Our law doesn’t condemn ¹  a man unless it first hears from him and learns ²  what he is doing, does it?” ³ 

How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them ¹ ?
