How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and insulted him ¹  in the desert!

Yet he brought out his people like sheep; he led them through the wilderness like a flock.

He says, ¹  “Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, ²  like they were that day at Massah ³  in the wilderness, ⁴ 

You did not bring me ¹  sacrifices and grain offerings during the forty years you spent in the wilderness, family ²  of Israel.

“Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.

¹ Then Moses led Israel to journey ²  away from the Red Sea. They went out to the Desert of Shur, walked for three days ³  into the desert, and found no water.

David stayed in the strongholds that were in the desert and in the hill country of the desert of Ziph. Saul looked for him all the time, ¹  but God did not deliver David ²  into his hand.

When David heard in the desert that Nabal was shearing his sheep,

Yet Jesus himself ¹  frequently withdrew ²  to the wilderness ³  and prayed.

For ¹  in the wilderness of Zin when the community rebelled against me, you ²  rebelled against my command ³  to show me as holy ⁴  before their eyes over the water – the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.”

So Saul arose and went down to the desert of Ziph, accompanied by three thousand select men of Israel, to look for David in the desert of Ziph.

God was with the boy as he grew. He lived in the wilderness and became an archer.

He lived in the wilderness of Paran. ¹  His mother found a wife for him from the land of Egypt. ² 

Pharaoh will think ¹  regarding the Israelites, ‘They are wandering around confused ²  in the land – the desert has closed in on them.’ ³ 

But as for you, ¹  turn back and head for the desert by the way to the Red Sea.” ² 

Then I sent messengers from the Kedemoth ¹  Desert to King Sihon of Heshbon with an offer of peace:

These cities are Bezer, in the desert plateau, for the Reubenites; Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan for the Manassehites.

Joshua and all Israel pretended to be defeated by them and they retreated along the way to the desert.

Six hundred survivors turned and ran away to the wilderness, to the cliff of Rimmon. They stayed there four months.

(24:2) When Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, they told him, “Look, David is in the desert of En Gedi.”
