For to the one who pleases him, ¹  God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, he gives the task of amassing ²  wealth ³  – only to give ⁴  it ⁵  to the one who pleases God. This ⁶  task of the wicked ⁷  is futile – like chasing the wind!

Turn away from evil and do what is right! ¹  Strive for peace and promote it! ² 

Receive my instruction ¹  rather than ²  silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.

He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, through whom I will reveal my splendor.” ¹ 

So ¹  do not be overly concerned about ²  what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not worry about such things. ³ 

For all the nations of the world pursue ¹  these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

and came ¹  and apologized to them. After ²  they brought them out, they asked them repeatedly ³  to leave the city.

but Israel even though pursuing ¹  a law of righteousness ²  did not attain it. ³ 

So then whether we are alive ¹  or away, we make it our ambition to please him. ² 

with this goal in mind, ¹  I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God ²  in Christ Jesus.

“If men fight and hit a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, ¹  but there is no serious injury, he will surely be punished in accordance with what the woman’s husband demands of him, and he will pay what the court decides. ² 

If two men ¹  get into a hand-to-hand fight, and the wife of one of them gets involved to help her husband against his attacker, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his genitals, ² 

Seek the Lord’s favor, ¹  all you humble people ²  of the land who have obeyed his commands! ³  Strive to do what is right! ⁴  Strive to be humble! ⁵  Maybe you will be protected ⁶  on the day of the Lord’s angry judgment.

Do not work for the food that disappears, ¹  but for the food that remains to eternal life – the food ²  which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.” ³ 

Epaphras, who is one of you and a slave ¹  of Christ, ²  greets you. He is always struggling in prayer on your behalf, so that you may stand mature and fully assured ³  in all the will of God.

the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled ¹  with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water belongs to us!” So Isaac ²  named the well ³  Esek ⁴  because they argued with him about it. ⁵ 

“If men fight, and one strikes his neighbor with a stone or with his fist and he does not die, but must remain in bed, ¹ 

Why do you contend against him, that he does not answer all a person’s ¹  words?

He will rescue ¹  me and protect me from those who attack me, ²  even though ³  they greatly outnumber me. ⁴ 

Do not go out hastily to litigation, ¹  or ²  what will you do afterward when your neighbor puts you to shame?
