Justice is driven back; godliness ¹  stands far off. Indeed, ²  honesty stumbles in the city square and morality is not even able to enter.

So ¹  Jesus, when he began his ministry, ²  was about thirty years old. He was ³  the son (as was supposed) ⁴  of Joseph, the son ⁵  of Heli,

On a day determined in advance, Herod ¹  put on his royal robes, ²  sat down on the judgment seat, ³  and made a speech ⁴  to them.

Jesus replied, ¹  “I have spoken publicly to the world. I always taught in the synagogues ²  and in the temple courts, ³  where all the Jewish people ⁴  assemble together. I ⁵  have said nothing in secret.

Large numbers ¹  of those who had practiced magic ²  collected their books ³  and burned them up in the presence of everyone. ⁴  When ⁵  the value of the books was added up, it was found to total fifty thousand silver coins. ⁶ 

You ¹  foolish Galatians! Who has cast a spell ²  on you? Before your eyes Jesus Christ was vividly portrayed ³  as crucified!

They observed a time of fasting and put Naboth in front of the people.

He strikes them for their wickedness, ¹  in a place where people can see, ² 

to give you thanks, ¹  and to tell about all your amazing deeds. ² 

I am safe, ¹  and among the worshipers I will praise the Lord.

Disaster is within it; violence ¹  and deceit do not depart from its public square.

I will speak ¹  about your regulations before kings and not be ashamed.

The wise inherit honor, but he holds fools up ¹  to public contempt. ² 

And the streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing. ¹ 

and elaborate greetings ¹  in the marketplaces, and to have people call them ‘Rabbi.’

But as the man ¹  went out he began to announce it publicly and spread the story widely, so that Jesus ²  was no longer able to enter any town openly but stayed outside in remote places. Still ³  they kept coming ⁴  to him from everywhere.

But ¹  he sternly ordered them not to make him known. ² 

But the population ¹  of the city was divided; some ²  sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people. ¹ 

And let the king’s decision which he will enact be disseminated ¹  throughout all his kingdom, vast though it is. ²  Then all the women will give honor to their husbands, from the most prominent to the lowly.”
