save ¹  others by snatching them out of the fire; have mercy ²  on others, coupled with a fear of God, ³  hating even the clothes stained ⁴  by the flesh. ⁵ 

for the people who were in the land before you have done all these abominations, ¹  and the land has become unclean.

He built high places for all his foreign wives so they could burn incense and make sacrifices to their gods. ¹ 

Moreover, this will become my deliverance, for no godless person would come before him. ¹ 

Upright men are appalled ¹  at this; the innocent man is troubled ²  with the godless.

For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, ¹  when God takes away his life? ² 

The lips of the righteous know ¹  what is pleasing, ²  but the speech ³  of the wicked is perverse.

The righteous person hates anything false, ¹  but the wicked person acts in shameful disgrace. ² 

Edom’s ¹  streams will be turned into pitch and her soil into brimstone; her land will become burning pitch.

So I defiled your holy princes, and handed Jacob over to destruction, and subjected ¹  Israel to humiliating abuse.”

I will give it to foreigners as loot, to the world’s wicked ones as plunder, and they will desecrate it.

They have sex with their father’s wife within you; ¹  they violate women during their menstrual period within you. ² 

According to their uncleanness and rebellion I have dealt with them, and I hid my face from them.

What defiles a person is not what goes into the mouth; it is what ¹  comes out of the mouth that defiles a person.”

These are the things that defile a person; it is not eating with unwashed hands that defiles a person.” ¹ 

The Lord says, “I have rejected them because ¹  the people of Judah have done what I consider evil. ²  They have set up their disgusting idols in the temple ³  which I have claimed for my own ⁴  and have defiled it.

So then I, the Lord who rules over all, ¹  have something to say concerning the prophets of Jerusalem: ²  ‘I will make these prophets eat the bitter food of suffering and drink the poison water of judgment. ³  For the prophets of Jerusalem are the reason ⁴  that ungodliness ⁵  has spread throughout the land.’”

They will not defile themselves with their idols, their detestable things, and all their rebellious deeds. I will save them from all their unfaithfulness ¹  by which they sinned. I will purify them; they will become my people and I will become their God.

shouting, “Men of Israel, ¹  help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, ²  and this sanctuary! ³  Furthermore ⁴  he has brought Greeks into the inner courts of the temple ⁵  and made this holy place ritually unclean!” ⁶ 

We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. ¹  We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind.
