And he said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord ¹  – that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’” ² 

Of what importance is the human race, ¹  that you should notice ²  them? Of what importance is mankind, ³  that you should pay attention to them, ⁴ 

and make them a little less than the heavenly beings? ¹  You grant mankind ²  honor and majesty; ³ 

Then ¹  observers ²  will say, “Yes indeed, the godly are rewarded! ³  Yes indeed, there is a God who judges ⁴  in the earth!”

He abandoned ¹  the sanctuary at Shiloh, the tent where he lived among men.

You make mankind return ¹  to the dust, ²  and say, “Return, O people!”

The heavens belong to the Lord, ¹  but the earth he has given to mankind. ² 

O Lord, of what importance is the human race, ¹  that you should notice them? Of what importance is mankind, ²  that you should be concerned about them? ³ 

so that mankind ¹  might acknowledge your mighty acts, and the majestic splendor of your kingdom.

Indeed, she lies in wait like a robber, ¹  and increases the unfaithful ²  among men. ³ 

Here is ¹  another misfortune ²  that I have seen on earth, ³  and it weighs ⁴  heavily on people: ⁵ 

Men bow down to them in homage, they lie flat on the ground in worship. ¹  Don’t spare them! ² 

Men will be humiliated, they will be brought low; the proud will be brought low. ¹ 

“I am the Lord, the God of all humankind. There is, indeed, nothing too difficult for me. ¹ 

The Lord says to Edom, ¹  “I will certainly make you small among nations. I will make you despised by all humankind.

He was driven from human society, his mind ¹  was changed to that of an animal, he lived ²  with the wild donkeys, he was fed grass like oxen, and his body became damp with the dew of the sky, until he came to understand that the most high God rules over human kingdoms, and he appoints over them whomever he wishes.

Be silent in the Lord’s presence, all people everywhere, ¹  for he is being moved to action in his holy dwelling place. ² 

and he has granted the Son ¹  authority to execute judgment, ²  because he is the Son of Man.

So the Lord said, “I will wipe humankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth – everything from humankind to animals, ¹  including creatures that move on the ground and birds of the air, for I regret that I have made them.”

The sounds of battle ¹  will resound to the ends of the earth. For the Lord will bring charges against the nations. ²  He will pass judgment on all humankind and will hand the wicked over to be killed in war.’ ³  The Lord so affirms it! ⁴
