The Lord promotes ¹  equity and justice; the Lord’s faithfulness extends throughout the earth. ² 

A king brings stability ¹  to a land ²  by justice, but one who exacts tribute ³  tears it down.

I said, “Listen, you leaders ¹  of Jacob, you rulers of the nation ²  of Israel! You ought to know what is just, ³ 

There was also a widow ¹  in that city ²  who kept coming ³  to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

Through faith they conquered kingdoms, administered justice, ¹  gained what was promised, ²  shut the mouths of lions,

Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! ¹  Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow! ² 

who justly treats ¹  the orphan and widow, and who loves resident foreigners, giving them food and clothing.

He will vindicate you in broad daylight, and publicly defend your just cause. ¹ 

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.

I know ¹  that the Lord defends the cause of the oppressed and vindicates the poor. ² 

vindicates the oppressed, ¹  and gives food to the hungry. The Lord releases the imprisoned.

Then you will understand ¹  righteousness and justice and equity – every ²  good ³  way. ⁴ 

The Lord who commands armies will be exalted ¹  when he punishes, ²  the sovereign God’s authority will be recognized when he judges. ³ 

But his sons did not follow ¹  his ways. Instead, they made money dishonestly, accepted bribes, and perverted justice. ² 

If it is a matter of strength, ¹  most certainly ²  he is the strong one! And if it is a matter of justice, he will say, ‘Who will summon me?’ ³ 

It is not the aged ¹  who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

He does not allow the wicked to live, ¹  but he gives justice to the poor.

As for the Almighty, ¹  we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice ²  and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.

How tragic that the once-faithful city has become a prostitute! ¹  She was once a center of ²  justice, fairness resided in her, but now only murderers. ³ 

I will make justice the measuring line, fairness the plumb line; hail will sweep away the unreliable refuge, ¹  the floodwaters will overwhelm the hiding place.
