God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment; the breadth of his understanding ¹  was as infinite as the sand on the seashore.

They read from the book of God’s law, explaining it ¹  and imparting insight. Thus the people ²  gained understanding from what was read.

He deprives the trusted advisers ¹  of speech ²  and takes away the discernment ³  of elders.

And he said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord ¹  – that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’” ² 

But it is a spirit in people, the breath ¹  of the Almighty, that makes them understand.

I will declare a wise saying; ¹  I will share my profound thoughts. ² 

I will learn a song that imparts wisdom; I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment of a harp. ¹ 

I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past. ¹ 

Give me understanding so that I might observe your law, and keep it with all my heart. ¹ 

I am your servant. Give me insight, so that I can understand ¹  your rules.

Your rules remain just. ¹  Give me insight so that I can live. ² 

Blessed ¹  is the one ²  who finds ³  wisdom, and the one who obtains ⁴  understanding.

By wisdom the Lord laid the foundation of the earth; ¹  he established the heavens by understanding. ² 

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

I will guide you ¹  in the way of wisdom and I will lead you in upright paths. ² 

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

Wisdom is found in the words ¹  of the discerning person, ²  but the one who lacks wisdom ³  will be disciplined. ⁴ 

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

How much better it is to acquire ¹  wisdom than gold; to acquire understanding is more desirable ²  than silver.

The one who is wise in heart ¹  is called ²  discerning, and kind speech ³  increases persuasiveness. ⁴
