When the earth and all its inhabitants dissolve in fear, ¹  I make its pillars secure.” ²  (Selah)

The bravehearted ¹  were plundered; ²  they “fell asleep.” ³  All the warriors were helpless. ⁴ 

For he knows what we are made of; ¹  he realizes ²  we are made of clay. ³ 

When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, ¹  and the hope of his strength ²  perishes. ³ 

“At that time ¹  Jacob’s splendor will be greatly diminished, ²  and he will become skin and bones. ³ 

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.

He gives strength to those who are tired; to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.

Even youths get tired and weary; even strong young men clumsily stumble. ¹ 

Listen to me, you stubborn people, ¹  you who distance yourself from doing what is right. ² 

Then I said, ¹  “There is no cure ²  for my grief! I am sick at heart!

Because of this, our hearts are sick; ¹  because of these things, we can hardly see ²  through our tears. ³ 

In that day your ¹  beautiful young women ²  and your ³  young men will faint from thirst. ⁴ 

You too will act like drunkards; ¹  you will go into hiding; ²  you too will seek refuge from the enemy.

On that day they will say ¹  to Jerusalem, “Don’t be afraid, Zion! Your hands must not be paralyzed from panic! ² 

Immediately the father of the boy cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not just please ourselves. ¹ 

But be careful that this liberty of yours does not become a hindrance to the weak.

That is why many of you are weak and sick, and quite a few are dead. ¹ 

It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

On behalf of such an individual I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except about my weaknesses.
