But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, ¹  killed another, and stoned another.

Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

When ¹  the chief priests and the Pharisees ²  heard his parables, they realized that he was speaking about them.

He also said, “The kingdom of God is like someone who spreads seed on the ground.

And when the grain is ripe, he sends in the sickle ¹  because the harvest has come.” ² 

But ¹  those tenants ²  seized his slave, ³  beat him, ⁴  and sent him away empty-handed. ⁵ 

Tax collectors ¹  also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”

Now all the tax collectors ¹  and sinners were coming ²  to hear him.

“Two men went up ¹  to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee ²  and the other a tax collector. ³ 

Now ¹  a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector ²  and was rich.

So ¹  they threw him out of the vineyard and killed ²  him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

My hand discovered the wealth of the nations, as if it were in a nest, as one gathers up abandoned eggs, I gathered up the whole earth. There was no wing flapping, or open mouth chirping.” ¹ 

Kill all the farmers who sow the seed in the land of Babylon. Kill all those who wield the sickle at harvest time. ¹  Let all the foreigners return to their own people. Let them hurry back to their own lands to escape destruction by that enemy army. ² 

Now King Mesha of Moab was a sheep breeder. ¹  He would send as tribute ²  to the king of Israel 100,000 male lambs and the wool of 100,000 rams.

The Beloved to Her Lover: Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-Hamon; he leased out ¹  the vineyard to those who maintained it. Each was to bring a thousand shekels of silver for its fruit.

But those who harvest the grain ¹  will eat it, and will praise the Lord. Those who pick the grapes will drink the wine ²  in the courts of my holy sanctuary.”

Once again you will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria. ¹  Those who plant them will once again enjoy their fruit. ² 

“Indeed, a time is coming,” ¹  says the Lord, ²  “when I will cause people and animals to sprout up in the lands of Israel and Judah. ³ 

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors ¹  do the same, don’t they?
