So they gathered it each morning, ¹  each person according to what he could eat, and when the sun got hot, it would melt. ² 

Moses went into the cloud when he went up ¹  the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. ² 

“I said, ‘I want to cut them in pieces. ¹  I want to make people forget they ever existed.

Look, I will be waiting at the fords of the desert until word from you ¹  reaches me.”

I ¹  have refused ²  to touch such things; ³  they are like loathsome food to me. ⁴ 

They glide by ¹  like reed ²  boats, like an eagle that swoops ³  down on its prey. ⁴ 

He grows up ¹  like a flower and then withers away; ²  he flees like a shadow, and does not remain. ³ 

My days have passed, my plans ¹  are shattered, even ²  the desires ³  of my heart.

Fire resides in his tent; ¹  over his residence burning sulfur is scattered.

The drought as well as the heat carry away the melted snow; ¹  so the grave ²  takes away those who have sinned. ³ 

May all my enemies be humiliated ¹  and absolutely terrified! ²  May they turn back and be suddenly humiliated!

But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! ¹  I looked for them, but they could not be found.

Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise ¹  failed forever?

You bring their lives to an end and they “fall asleep.” ¹  In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up;

For my days go up in smoke, ¹  and my bones are charred like a fireplace. ² 

but when the hot wind ¹  blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew.

Wealth gained quickly ¹  will dwindle away, ²  but the one who gathers it little by little ³  will become rich. ⁴ 

Drive out the scorner ¹  and contention will leave; strife and insults will cease. ² 

Where there is no wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, ¹  contention ceases. ²
