He said, “What pledge should I give you?” She replied, “Your seal, your cord, and the staff that’s in your hand.” So he gave them to her and had sex with her. ¹  She became pregnant by him.

The furnishings included linen and purple curtains hung by cords of the finest linen ¹  and purple wool on silver rings, alabaster columns, gold and silver couches ²  displayed on a floor made of valuable stones of alabaster, mother-of-pearl, and mineral stone.

While they were bringing her out, she sent word ¹  to her father-in-law: “I am pregnant by the man to whom these belong.” ²  Then she said, “Identify ³  the one to whom the seal, cord, and staff belong.”

Because God has untied ¹  my tent cord and afflicted me, people throw off all restraint in my presence. ² 

The Lord is God and he has delivered us. ¹  Tie the offering ²  with ropes to the horns of the altar! ³ 

Look at Zion, the city where we hold religious festivals! You ¹  will see Jerusalem, ²  a peaceful settlement, a tent that stays put; ³  its stakes will never be pulled up; none of its ropes will snap in two.

But our tents have been destroyed. The ropes that held them in place have been ripped apart. ¹  Our children are gone and are not coming back. ²  There is no survivor to put our tents back up, no one left to hang their tent curtains in place.

A rope is hidden for him ¹  on the ground and a trap for him ²  lies on the path.

When we invade the land ¹ , tie this red rope ²  in the window through which you let us down, and gather together in your house your father, mother, brothers, and all who live in your father’s house. ³ 

So they pulled Jeremiah up from the cistern with ropes. Jeremiah, however, still remained confined ¹  to the courtyard of the guardhouse.

Samson said to her, “If they tie me up with seven fresh ¹  bowstrings ²  that have not been dried, I will become weak and be just like any other man.”

So the rulers of the Philistines brought her seven fresh bowstrings which had not been dried and they tied him up with them.

The ropes of death tightened around me, ¹  the snares ²  of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted ³  with trouble and sorrow.

saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”

They entered Jerusalem to the sound of stringed instruments and trumpets and proceeded to the temple of the Lord.

For he has been thrown into a net by his feet ¹  and he wanders into a mesh. ² 

Sing ¹  a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument!

to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre, to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp.

Sing to the Lord accompanied by a harp, accompanied by a harp and the sound of music!
