I cry out to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my shelter, my security ¹  in the land of the living.”

Join with us! ¹  We will all share ²  equally in what we steal.” ³ 

Discipline your child, for ¹  there is hope, but do not set your heart ²  on causing his death. ³ 

Do not be one who strikes hands in pledge or who puts up security for debts.

Like an archer who wounds at random, ¹  so is the one who hires ²  a fool or hires any passer-by.

When ¹  he speaks graciously, ²  do not believe him, ³  for there are seven ⁴  abominations ⁵  within him.

I have seen another ¹  misfortune ²  on the earth: ³  It is an error a ruler makes. ⁴ 

For tyrants will disappear, those who taunt will vanish, and all those who love to do wrong will be eliminated ¹  –

There at home they will say, ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is just a big noise! ¹  He has let the most opportune moment pass by.’ ² 

Let him bury his face in the dust; ¹  perhaps there is hope.

“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves. ¹ 

But he said, ‘No, since in gathering the weeds you may uproot the wheat with them.

But on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,

The ¹  disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?” ² 

They were even more astonished and said ¹  to one another, “Then ²  who can be saved?” ³ 

plotting against ¹  him, to catch ²  him in something he might say.

The ¹  chief priests and the experts in the law ²  were trying to find some way ³  to execute ⁴  Jesus, ⁵  for they were afraid of the people. ⁶ 

So ¹  Judas ²  agreed and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus ³  when no crowd was present. ⁴ 

So Jesus said to the twelve, “You don’t want to go away too, do you?” ¹ 

Then ¹  they cast lots for them, and the one chosen was Matthias; ²  so he was counted with the eleven apostles. ³
