I will make you serve your enemies ¹  in a land that you know nothing about. For my anger is like a fire that will burn against you.”

As ¹  I was en route and near Damascus, ²  about noon a very bright ³  light from heaven ⁴  suddenly flashed ⁵  around me.

On that day ¹  I will make the leaders of Judah like an igniter ²  among sticks and a burning torch among sheaves, and they will burn up all the surrounding nations right and left. Then the people of Jerusalem will settle once more in their place, the city of Jerusalem.

Then a fire ¹  went out from the Lord and devoured the 250 men who offered incense.

Moreover, you continued to provoke the Lord at Taberah, ¹  Massah, ²  and Kibroth-Hattaavah. ³ 

May the Lord rain down ¹  burning coals ²  and brimstone ³  on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! ⁴ 

Indeed, ¹  you are my lamp, Lord. ²  My God ³  illuminates the darkness around me. ⁴ 

The Lord grants success to the one whose behavior he finds commendable. ¹ 

Your anger overwhelms me; ¹  your terrors destroy me.

Fire goes before him; on every side ¹  it burns up his enemies.

A wicked scoundrel ¹  digs up ²  evil, and his slander ³  is like a scorching fire. ⁴

Edom’s ¹  streams will be turned into pitch and her soil into brimstone; her land will become burning pitch.

“I have come ¹  to bring ²  fire on the earth – and how I wish it were already kindled!
