In the womb he attacked his brother; in his manly vigor he struggled ¹  with God.

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but ¹  the one who humbles ²  himself will be exalted.”

Therefore, since we have such a hope, we behave with great boldness, ¹ 

If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance with ¹  the Spirit.

And all who will behave ¹  in accordance with this rule, peace and mercy be on them, and on the Israel of God. ² 

Conduct yourselves ¹  with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunities.

And you have acted even more wickedly than your ancestors! Each one of you has followed the stubborn inclinations of your own wicked heart and not obeyed me. ¹

For our reason for confidence ¹  is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with pure motives ²  and sincerity which are from God ³  – not by human wisdom ⁴  but by the grace of God – we conducted ourselves in the world, and all the more ⁵  toward you.

Be strong and act like men, you Philistines, or else you will wind up serving the Hebrews the way they have served you! Act like men and fight!”

Achish said to his servants, “Look at this madman! Why did you bring him to me?

Do I have a shortage of fools, that you have brought me this man to display his insanity in front of me? Should this man enter my house?”
