You will free me ¹  from the net they hid for me, for you are my place of refuge.

I did not harm them, but they hid a net to catch me and dug a pit to trap me. ¹ 

We escaped with our lives, ¹  like a bird from a hunter’s snare. The snare broke, and we escaped.

for the Lord will be ¹  the source of your confidence, ²  and he will guard your foot ³  from being caught in a trap. ⁴ 

The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, ¹  but the faithless will be captured ²  by their own desires. ³ 

It is a snare ¹  for a person ²  to rashly cry, ³  “Holy!” and only afterward to consider ⁴  what he has vowed. ⁵

But these people are looted and plundered; all of them are trapped in pits ¹  and held captive ²  in prisons. They were carried away as loot with no one to rescue them; they were carried away as plunder, and no one says, “Bring that back!” ³ 

“But be on your guard ¹  so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap. ²

That is why snares surround you, and why sudden fear terrifies you,

he will certainly rescue you from the snare of the hunter ¹  and from the destructive plague.

In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, ¹  but a righteous person can sing ²  and rejoice. ³ 

Terror, pit, and snare are ready to overtake you inhabitants of the earth! ¹ 

For ¹  it will overtake ²  all who live on the face of the whole earth. ³ 

They speak sinful words. ¹  So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak!

(Now they were asking this in an attempt to trap him, so that they could bring charges against ¹  him.) ²  Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger. ³ 

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

and they will come to their senses and escape the devil’s trap where they are held captive ¹  to do his will. ²
