“How can you say, ‘I have not made myself unclean. I have not paid allegiance to ¹  the gods called Baal.’ Just look at the way you have behaved in the Valley of Hinnom! ²  Think about the things you have done there! You are like a flighty, young female camel that rushes here and there, crisscrossing its path. ³ 

¹ “‘If you ²  sin unintentionally and do not observe all these commandments that the Lord has spoken to Moses –

He followed in the footsteps of ¹  the kings of Israel; he also made images of the Baals.

“Teach ¹  me and I, for my part, ²  will be silent; explain to me ³  how I have been mistaken. ⁴ 

And I have waited. ¹  But because they do not speak, because they stand there and answer no more,

“Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works.

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot! ¹ 

It leaves a glistening wake behind it; one would think the deep had a head of white hair.

For the one who takes revenge against murderers took notice of the oppressed; ¹  he did not overlook ²  their cry for help ³ 

I carefully obey your commands; ¹  I do not deviate from them. ² 

He made the moon to mark the months, ¹  and the sun sets according to a regular schedule. ² 

The arrogant dig pits to trap me, ¹  which violates your law. ² 

The wicked lay a trap for me, but I do not wander from your precepts.

If you, O Lord, were to keep track of ¹  sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? ² 

Acknowledge ¹  him in all your ways, ²  and he will make your paths straight. ³ 

Righteousness ¹  guards the one who lives with integrity, ²  but wickedness ³  overthrows the sinner.

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

For I see everything they do. Their wicked ways are not hidden from me. Their sin is not hidden away where I cannot see it. ¹ 

ד (Dalet) To me he is like a bear lying in ambush, ¹  like a hidden lion ²  stalking its prey. ³ 

They have sunk deep into corruption ¹  as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their wrongdoing. He will repay them for their sins.
