Then Jacob woke up ¹  and thought, ²  “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!”

I was consumed by scorching heat ¹  during the day and by piercing cold ²  at night, and I went without sleep. ³ 

He came again and found them sleeping; they could not keep their eyes open. ¹ 

(Now Jesus had been talking about ¹  his death, but they ²  thought he had been talking about real sleep.) ³ 

Look at me! ¹  Answer me, O Lord my God! Revive me, ²  or else I will die! ³ 

“I will make her officials and wise men drunk, along with her governors, leaders, ¹  and warriors. They will fall asleep forever and never wake up,” ²  says the King whose name is the Lord who rules over all. ³ 

A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, ¹  was sinking ²  into a deep sleep while Paul continued to speak ³  for a long time. Fast asleep, ⁴  he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, ¹  and while he was asleep, ²  he took part of the man’s side ³  and closed up the place with flesh. ⁴ 

For the Lord has poured out on you a strong urge to sleep deeply. ¹  He has shut your eyes (the prophets), and covered your heads (the seers).

Then ¹  he came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake for one hour?

When ¹  he got up from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, exhausted ²  from grief.

Throughout that night the king was unable to sleep, ¹  so he asked for the book containing the historical records ²  to be brought. As the records ³  were being read in the king’s presence,

If the person is poor you may not use what he gives you as security for a covering. ¹ 

or else he might find you asleep when he returns suddenly.

Do not love sleep, ¹  lest you become impoverished; open your eyes so that ²  you might be satisfied with food. ³ 

None tire or stumble, they don’t stop to nap or sleep. They don’t loosen their belts, or unstrap their sandals to rest. ¹ 

“‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and will rid the land of wild beasts, so that they can live securely ¹  in the wilderness and even sleep in the woods. ² 

Then the king departed to his palace. But he spent the night without eating, and no diversions ¹  were brought to him. He was unable to sleep. ² 

So ¹  he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not fall into temptation!” ² 

When the sun went down, Abram fell sound asleep, ¹  and great terror overwhelmed him. ²
