Leave the presence of a foolish person, ¹  or ²  you will not understand ³  wise counsel. ⁴ 

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

A wise person is cautious ¹  and turns from evil, but a fool throws off restraint ²  and is overconfident. ³ 

Wisdom rests in the heart of the discerning; it is known ¹  even in the heart ²  of fools.

The tongue of the wise ¹  treats knowledge correctly, ²  but the mouth of the fool spouts out ³  folly.

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly. ¹ 

A wise child ¹  brings joy to his father, but a foolish person ²  despises ³  his mother.

A rebuke makes a greater impression on ¹  a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool. ² 

It is better for a person to meet ¹  a mother bear being robbed of her cubs, than ²  to encounter ³  a fool in his folly. ⁴ 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

Whoever brings a fool ¹  into the world ²  does so ³  to his grief, and the father of a fool has no joy. ⁴ 

Wisdom is directly in front of ¹  the discerning person, but the eyes of a fool run ²  to the ends of the earth. ³ 

A foolish child is a grief ¹  to his father, and bitterness to the mother who bore him. ² 

The lips of a fool ¹  enter into strife, ²  and his mouth invites ³  a flogging. ⁴ 

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life. ¹ 

Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity ¹  than one who is perverse in his speech ²  and is a fool. ³ 

Luxury is not appropriate ¹  for a fool; ²  how much less for a servant to rule over princes! ³ 

A foolish child ¹  is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife ²  is like ³  a constant dripping. ⁴ 

There is desirable treasure and olive oil ¹  in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish person ²  devours all he has. ³ 

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, ¹  for he will despise the wisdom of your words. ²
