But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”

Any children that you father ¹  after them will be yours; they will be listed ²  under the names of their brothers in their inheritance. ³ 

He must not profane his children among his people, ¹  for I am the Lord who sanctifies him.’”

Gideon fathered seventy sons through his many wives. ¹ 

He has neither children nor descendants ¹  among his people, no survivor in those places he once stayed. ² 

“You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend, ¹ 

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. From the east I will bring your descendants; from the west I will gather you.

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, ¹  and you will spread out ²  to the west, east, north, and south. All the families of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another ³  using your name and that of your descendants. ⁴ 

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. ¹  Scripture ²  does not say, “and to the descendants,” ³  referring to many, but “and to your descendant,” ⁴  referring to one, who is Christ.

I will confirm ¹  my covenant as a perpetual ²  covenant between me and you. It will extend to your descendants after you throughout their generations. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you. ³ 

When the time comes for you to die, ¹  I will raise up your descendant, one of your own sons, to succeed you, ²  and I will establish his kingdom.

O children ¹  of Israel, God’s ²  servant, you descendants of Jacob, God’s ³  chosen ones!

O children ¹  of Abraham, ²  God’s ³  servant, you descendants ⁴  of Jacob, God’s ⁵  chosen ones!

There were seven brothers. The first one married, ¹  and when he died he had no children.

The second married her and died without any children, and likewise the third.
