and a messenger came to Job, saying, “The oxen were plowing ¹  and the donkeys were grazing beside them,

Seek the Lord while he makes himself available; ¹  call to him while he is nearby!

Do you people think ¹  that I am some local deity and not the transcendent God?” ²  the Lord asks. ³ 

(A city by the name of Hamonah ¹  will also be there.) They will cleanse the land.’

Now ¹  there were shepherds ²  nearby ³  living out in the field, keeping guard ⁴  over their flock at night.

When ¹  the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran off and spread the news ²  in the town ³  and countryside.

The Lord attacked ¹  the residents of Ashdod severely, bringing devastation on them. He struck the people of ²  both Ashdod and the surrounding area with sores. ³
