not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money.

But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, ¹  because you thought you could acquire ²  God’s gift with money!

“Hey, ¹  all who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come! Buy and eat! Come! Buy wine and milk without money and without cost! ² 

You must not lend him your money at interest and you must not sell him food for profit. ¹ 

And give the money for the redemption of the excess number of them to Aaron and his sons.”

They did not audit the treasurers who disbursed ¹  the funds to the foremen, for they were honest. ² 

“If you lend money to any of ¹  my people who are needy among you, do not be like a moneylender ²  to him; do not charge ³  him interest. ⁴ 

The one who loves money ¹  will never be satisfied with money, ²  he who loves wealth ³  will never be satisfied ⁴  with his ⁵  income. This also is futile.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff ¹  – no bread, no bag, ²  no money in their belts –

Then ¹  he ²  sat down opposite the offering box, ³  and watched the crowd putting coins into it. Many rich people were throwing in large amounts.

For the love of money is the root ¹  of all evils. ²  Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.

For this is what the Lord says: “You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

It ¹  could have been sold at a high price and the money ²  given to the poor!”

But when we came to the place where we spent the night, we opened our sacks and each of us found his money – the full amount ¹  – in the mouth of his sack. So we have returned it. ² 

You may purchase ¹  food to eat and water to drink from them.

Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, ¹  and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! ² 

Why then didn’t you put ¹  my money in the bank, ²  so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?’

Whenever the Levites brought the chest to the royal accountant and they saw there was a lot of silver, the royal scribe and the accountant of the high priest emptied the chest and then took it back to its place. They went through this routine every day and collected a large amount of silver.

Then Joseph said, “If your money is gone, bring your livestock, and I will give you food ¹  in exchange for ²  your livestock.”

You are to receive the atonement money ¹  from the Israelites and give it for the service ²  of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial ³  for the Israelites before the Lord, to make atonement ⁴  for your lives.”
