Then Isaac built an altar there and worshiped ¹  the Lord. He pitched his tent there, and his servants dug a well. ² 

The well which the princes ¹  dug, which the leaders of the people opened with their scepters and their staffs.” And from the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

that ¹  you must search out ²  my iniquity, and inquire about my sin,

Iron is taken from the ground, ¹  and rock is poured out ²  as copper.

For ¹  it has been hidden from the eyes of every living creature, and from the birds of the sky it has been concealed.

Your prophets have become like jackals among the ruins, O Israel.

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. “We’ve found water,” they reported. ¹ 

O my soul, do not come into their council, do not be united to their assembly, my heart, ¹  for in their anger they have killed men, and for pleasure they have hamstrung oxen.

So I did just as I was commanded. I carried out my belongings packed for exile during the day, and at evening I dug myself a hole through the wall with my hands. I went out in the darkness, carrying my baggage ¹  on my shoulder while they watched.

His servants ¹  dug another well, but they quarreled over it too, so Isaac named it ²  Sitnah. ³ 

and he said, “This is what the Lord says, ‘Make many cisterns in this valley,’ ¹ 

Yes, you would gamble ¹  for the fatherless, and auction off ²  your friend.

Man puts an end to the darkness; ¹  he searches the farthest recesses for the ore in the deepest darkness. ² 

It ¹  paws the ground in the valley, ²  exulting mightily, ³  it goes out to meet the weapons.

Hide them in the dust ¹  together, imprison ²  them ³  in the grave. ⁴ 

I did not harm them, but they hid a net to catch me and dug a pit to trap me. ¹ 

in order to protect him from times of trouble, ¹  until the wicked are destroyed. ² 

Do not plot ¹  evil against your neighbor when ²  he dwells by you unsuspectingly.

The sluggard plunges ¹  his hand in the dish, and he will not even bring it back to his mouth! ² 

Should good be paid back with evil? Yet they are virtually digging a pit to kill me. ¹  Just remember how I stood before you pleading on their behalf ²  to keep you from venting your anger on them. ³
