Hold them accountable for all their sins! ¹  Do not vindicate them! ² 

They devise ¹  unjust schemes; they disguise ²  a well-conceived plot. ³  Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered. ⁴ 

He asked, “Why? What wrong has he done?” But they shouted more insistently, “Crucify him!”

David fled from Naioth in Ramah. He came to Jonathan and asked, ¹  “What have I done? What is my offense? ²  How have I sinned before your father? For he is seeking my life!”

This is what the Lord says: “Because the Ammonites have committed three crimes ¹  – make that four! ²  – I will not revoke my decree of judgment. ³  They ripped open Gilead’s pregnant women ⁴  so they could expand their territory.

for they ¹  are eager ²  to inflict harm, ³  and they hasten ⁴  to shed blood. ⁵ 

When the wicked increase, ¹  transgression increases, but the righteous will see ²  their downfall.

But you, Lord, know all their plots to kill me. Do not pardon their crimes! Do not ignore their sins as though you had erased them! ¹  Let them be brought down in defeat before you! Deal with them while you are still angry! ² 

Gilead is a city full of evildoers; ¹  its streets are stained with bloody footprints! ² 

The filthy, ¹  stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished! ² 

Then ¹  the chief priests began to accuse him repeatedly.

The inscription ¹  of the charge against him read, “The king of the Jews.”

Fathers must not be put to death for what their children ¹  do, nor children for what their fathers do; each must be put to death for his own sin.

I grabbed hold of my concubine and carved her up and sent the pieces ¹  throughout the territory occupied by Israel, ²  because they committed such an unthinkable atrocity ³  in Israel.

The tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe ¹  of Benjamin, saying, “How could such a wicked thing take place? ² 

He went on to say, “Why is my lord chasing his servant? What have I done? What wrong have I done? ¹ 

Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers who were with him heard about all the atrocities ¹  that Ishmael son of Nethaniah had committed.

Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders, ¹  “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation ²  against him.”

The rest of the people will hear and become afraid to keep doing such evil among you.

Then they must proclaim, “Our hands have not spilled this blood, nor have we ¹  witnessed the crime. ²
