Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Then if ¹  it bears fruit next year, ²  very well, ³  but if ⁴  not, you can cut it down.’”

Now you are condemned to perpetual servitude as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.” ¹ 

The one who touches them must use an iron instrument or the wooden shaft of a spear. They are completely burned up right where they lie!” ¹ 

As one of them was felling a log, the ax head ¹  dropped into the water. He shouted, “Oh no, ²  my master! It was borrowed!”

He smashed the sacred pillars to bits, cut down the Asherah pole, and filled those shrines ¹  with human bones.

For the religion ¹  of these people is worthless. They cut down a tree in the forest, and a craftsman makes it into an idol with his tools. ²

so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another.

Is Christ divided? Paul wasn’t crucified for you, was he? ¹  Or were you in fact baptized in the name of Paul? ² 

He and all his men ¹  went up on Mount Zalmon. He ²  took an ax ³  in his hand and cut off a tree branch. He put it ⁴  on his shoulder and said to his men, “Quickly, do what you have just seen me do!” ⁵

When the men of the city got up the next morning, they saw ¹  the Baal altar pulled down, the nearby Asherah pole cut down, and the second bull sacrificed on the newly built altar.
