I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, ¹  people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.

Far be it from you to do such a thing – to kill the godly with the wicked, treating the godly and the wicked alike! Far be it from you! Will not the judge ¹  of the whole earth do what is right?” ² 

Pay attention, all you people, ¹  both rich and poor!

you young men and young women, you elderly, along with you children!

You must expel both men and women; you must put them outside the camp, so that ¹  they will not defile their camps, among which I live.”

One statute must apply ¹  to you who belong to the congregation and to the resident foreigner who is living among you, as a permanent ²  statute for your future generations. You and the resident foreigner will be alike ³  before the Lord.

The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy ¹  both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

He made the ten stands in this way. All of them were cast in one mold and were identical in measurements and shape.

They divided them by lots, for there were officials of the holy place and officials designated by God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. ¹ 

“That is because, from the least important to the most important of them, all of them are greedy for dishonest gain. Prophets and priests alike, all of them practice deceit.

And I will smash them like wine bottles against one another, children and parents alike. ¹  I will not show any pity, mercy, or compassion. Nothing will keep me from destroying them,’ ²  says the Lord.”

The appearance of the wheels and their construction ¹  was like gleaming jasper, ²  and all four wheels looked alike. Their structure was like a wheel within a wheel. ³ 

Indeed! All lives are mine – the life of the father as well as the life of the son is mine. The one ¹  who sins will die.

I will go to the leaders ¹  and speak with them. Surely they know what the Lord demands. ²  Surely they know what their God requires of them.” ³  Yet all of them, too, have rejected his authority and refuse to submit to him. ⁴ 

¹ So I will give their wives to other men and their fields to new owners. For from the least important to the most important of them, all of them are greedy for dishonest gain. Prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.

Small and great are ¹  there, and the slave is free ²  from his master. ³ 

He is the one who forms every human heart, ¹  and takes note of all their actions.

He will bless his loyal followers, ¹  both young and old. ² 

The eyes of the Lord ¹  are in every place, keeping watch ²  on those who are evil and those who are good.

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that everything comes – both calamity and blessing? ¹
