So Judas obtained a squad of soldiers ¹  and some officers of the chief priests and Pharisees. ²  They came to the orchard ³  with lanterns ⁴  and torches and weapons.

They ¹  stripped him and put a scarlet robe ²  around him,

Is it right ¹  for us to pay the tribute tax ²  to Caesar ³  or not?”

Then ¹  the whole group of them rose up and brought Jesus ²  before Pilate. ³ 

and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely ¹  and crucified. ²  Yet ³  on the third day, he will be raised.”

Now when the centurion, ¹  who stood in front of him, saw how he died, ²  he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”

The commanding officer ¹  answered, “I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money.” ²  “But I was even ³  born a citizen,” ⁴  Paul replied. ⁵ 

And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, ¹  he sent them into his vineyard.

Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right ¹  to pay taxes ²  to Caesar ³  or not?”

Show me the coin used for the tax.” So ¹  they brought him a denarius. ² 

They ¹  tied him up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate ²  the governor. ³ 

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence ¹  and gathered the whole cohort ²  around him.

He told them, “Collect no more ¹  than you are required to.” ² 

Now ¹  a man named Zacchaeus was there; he was a chief tax collector ²  and was rich.

“Show me a denarius. ¹  Whose image ²  and inscription are on it?” ³  They said, “Caesar’s.”

Now there was a man in Caesarea ¹  named Cornelius, a centurion ²  of what was known as the Italian Cohort. ³ 

to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! Amen.

“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and experts in the law. ¹  They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles.

One of them, named Agabus, got up ¹  and predicted ²  by the Spirit that a severe ³  famine ⁴  was about to come over the whole inhabited world. ⁵  (This ⁶  took place during the reign of Claudius.) ⁷ 

The ships of Kittim ¹  will come against him, leaving him disheartened. ²  He will turn back and direct his indignation against the holy covenant. He will return and honor ³  those who forsake the holy covenant.
