Don’t you realize the Lord’s day of judgment will bring ¹  darkness, not light – gloomy blackness, not bright light?

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Extend your hand toward heaven ²  so that there may be ³  darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness so thick it can be felt.” ⁴ 

They meet with darkness in the daytime, ¹  and grope about ²  in the noontime as if it were night. ³ 

He does not expect ¹  to escape from darkness; ²  he is marked for the sword; ³ 

who leave ¹  the upright ²  paths to walk on the dark ³  ways,

Therefore see to it ¹  that the light in you ²  is not darkness.

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead, ¹  who turn darkness into light and light into darkness, who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter. ² 

when I made ¹  the storm clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, ² 

For, look, darkness covers the earth and deep darkness covers ¹  the nations, but the Lord shines on you; his splendor ²  appears over you.

He shrouded himself in darkness, ¹  in thick rain clouds. ² 

That day will be a day of God’s anger, ¹  a day of distress and hardship, a day of devastation and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and dark skies,

God saw ¹  that the light was good, ²  so God separated ³  the light from the darkness.

He brought them out of the utter darkness, ¹  and tore off their shackles.

It was now ¹  about noon, ²  and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, ³ 

You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, ¹  in the dark places, in the watery depths.

I will darken all the lights in the sky over you, and I will darken your land, declares the sovereign Lord.

God called ¹  the light “day” and the darkness ²  “night.” There was evening, and there was morning, marking the first day. ³ 

to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. ¹  God saw that it was good.

Indeed, ¹  you are my lamp, ²  Lord. The Lord illumines ³  the darkness around me. ⁴ 

That day ¹  – let it be darkness; ²  let not God on high regard ³  it, nor let light shine ⁴  on it!
