So Abraham hurried into the tent and said to Sarah, “Quick! Take ¹  three measures ²  of fine flour, knead it, and make bread.” ³ 

He said ¹  to his daughters, “So where is he? ²  Why in the world ³  did you leave the man? Call him, so that he may eat ⁴  a meal ⁵  with us.”

“‘They must be holy to their God, and they must not profane ¹  the name of their God, because they are the ones who present the Lord’s gifts, ²  the food of their God. Therefore they must be holy. ³ 

You must sanctify him because he presents the food of your God. He must be holy to you because I, the Lord who sanctifies you all, ¹  am holy.

Jesse said to his son David, “Take your brothers this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread; go quickly ¹  to the camp to your brothers.

When the prophet from Judah finished his meal, ¹  the old prophet saddled his visitor’s donkey for him. ² 

Take ¹  ten loaves of bread, some small cakes, and a container of honey and visit him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.”

No one will take any food to those who mourn for the dead to comfort them. No one will give them any wine to drink to console them for the loss of their father or mother.

They got their gifts ready for Joseph’s arrival ¹  at noon, for they had heard ²  that they were to have a meal ³  there.

Asher’s ¹  food will be rich, ²  and he will provide delicacies ³  to royalty.

For my sighing comes in place of ¹  my food, ²  and my groanings ³  flow forth like water. ⁴ 

He rained down manna for them to eat; he gave them the grain of heaven. ¹ 

May his children ¹  roam around begging, asking for handouts as they leave their ruined home! ² 

Better is a dry crust of bread ¹  where there is quietness ²  than a house full of feasting with strife. ³ 

By the ninth day of the fourth month ¹  the famine in the city was so severe the residents ²  had no food.

“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their ¹  hands when they eat.” ² 

Now ¹  Jesus ²  went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.

He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They replied, “Seven.”

They baked cakes of bread without yeast using the dough they had brought from Egypt, for it was made without yeast – because they were thrust out ¹  of Egypt and were not able to delay, they ²  could not prepare ³  food for themselves either.

Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, brought ¹  a burnt offering and sacrifices for God, ²  and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat food ³  with the father-in-law of Moses before God.
